Make it Worth it

As the year 2011 draws to a close we are then told to make a "New Year's Resolution".  Everyone makes one of these and sooner or later the said resolution fails or just becomes forgotten.  The one that everyone eventually makes in their lives to go to the gym and work out at least three times a week.  Go on a diet.  Make more money.  Get a better job.  Be a more loving person. Stop smoking. Learn how to ski.  Become fluent in Romanian(or some other random language). All of these things meant something to someone at one point. If they didn't they wouldn't have made it onto the yearly Bucket List.  What is it that you want to change about yourself?  Everyone has that one thing they want to do better in. For some it's their looks, others their knowledge, others their health.  Whatever it may be it has some importance in the life of the resolver.  It isn't just a resolution.  It is a dream. With the changing of the last number in our year, come a changing of the tides of dreamers.  With a New Year, comes new dreams.
Dreams don't just happen at night.  They push the dreamer to new heights.  Causing them to grow and reach for higher dreams, dreams that make the dreamer more aware of himself and able to see the light of others.   I know that many think that the new year is just another day, but so was the day you were born.  Make this new year count.  Make a resolution that you can't wait to accomplish.  Do something that you never thought possible.
This New Year is the last one before I graduate High School, and for me that's huge.  It's a scary thought, one that I didn't expect so soon.  I remember sitting in my second grade class and my teacher, Mrs. Brady, asked us how we spent our New Year's.  It was like every other year before and after that.  With my family eating food and playing games.  But I thought then that I was going to have to wait for the rest of my life to happen before my graduation finally came.... and now it's here.  I can almost see it looming in on the horizon. It is a sight I have longed to see for as long as I can remember.
The year 2012 is going to be a great year! Not only does half the world's population think that the world will end in 12 months time, but it's a year for change.  So make this year worth it.  Do something crazy, make a friend, learn a new work, a language even.  Spend time with someone you wouldn't have thought to spend time with before, say hello to a stranger, fall in love, go the distance, and enjoy the ride!  Don't let this year's resolved take a flying leap off the edge of a cliff.  Make them mean something.  Give your dreams a voice, and let that voice be heard in the months to come. Have a Happy New Year and make this year a year to remember!
