Make it Worth it

Image
As the year 2011 draws to a close we are then told to make a "New Year's Resolution".  Everyone makes one of these and sooner or later the said resolution fails or just becomes forgotten.  The one that everyone eventually makes in their lives to go to the gym and work out at least three times a week.  Go on a diet.  Make more money.  Get a better job.  Be a more loving person. Stop smoking. Learn how to ski.  Become fluent in Romanian(or some other random language). All of these things meant something to someone at one point. If they didn't they wouldn't have made it onto the yearly Bucket List.  What is it that you want to change about yourself?  Everyone has that one thing they want to do better in. For some it's their looks, others their knowledge, others their health.  Whatever it may be it has some importance in the life of the resolver.  It isn't just a resolution.  It is a dream. With the changing of the la...

Never in a Million

The thought never occurred to me as odd, it was simply the right thing to do. Ironic as it may be that I, Daniel Jameson Mackamay, would consent to this. I must have been out of my mind. She would never dream of going on a date with me. She was her, and I was... well me. She had him and would never leave him... perhaps I could just get her to go along with one simple night out. We had been friends for a while but maybe friends wasn't enough anymore. I know that I wanted more than for her to call me her 'friend'. She was amazing. She was everything a guy could ask for. She was her....She was Kat.  *                            *                            *                           *                         ...

The Unwanted Chapter One: Chains

Cool metal touched my hand, wrapped around my wrist.  my hair stood on end, goosebumps rose up and down my arms.  Through the darkness the faint outline of the metal door was barely visible.  Though my eyes were adjusted to the darkness I couldn't see a thing.   The others were all asleep, I should be too.  With that realization my grip on the cold metal chain tightened. I pulled it slowly across my bed, catching the links before they hit the floor. Moving slowly I gently set the chain on the floor and stepped toward the doorway.  The darkness was thick with silence that made it hard to breath.  The door was right there, almost in reach, only a few more steps.  My hand reached out, seeking the smooth surface of the door.  Just as I was almost there, a voice reached my ears.      "--open the door."  a gruff voice murmured. I was trapped.  I couldn't move, I couldn't hide. I was as good as dead.  My feet...

Chapter 1: Promises

Elias Jenkins stood waist deep in the ice cold water.  He stood still as a stone as he watched it swirl around his body.  He seemed to be looking for something in the flowing current that swept unrelentingly by.  His dark blue eyes slowly moved over the water, stopping for only brief seconds to look fore closely.  Having turned in almost a complete circle he stopped completely.  His eyes locked on some unknown object under the moving surface. Fingers on his right hand twitched spasmodically.  Then through the clear water of the river you could see it.  A thin leather cord tied with knots.  A small seed pearl fluttering in the current next to a small silver bead.  The sun glinted of the silver and Elias dove. It took less than a minute for him to dive under the frigged water, and outstretched before him, and grasp the thin strip of leather.  Water splashed around him as his head broke the surface, a triumphant smile on his lips. ...

Do You Ever Wonder

I was laying on my stomach in the lamplight glowing over my bed. The clock read 12:47am. Why am I awake right now? A small chime rang through the dark air. His reply was in. I opened the message that was waiting for me in my inbox. "urmm... hun... what would you take to a BBQ? xxxx" That seemed a rather odd question.... what would I take? Mountain Dew most likely... or Doritos... ok that works.  So that is what I said, while at the same time asking why. I lay in bed thinking about the boy I was talking to... Chris was his name.. or so he said. He lives in London. At first I was only talking to him cause he was nice and sweet, and the ever present bonus that he was from the city I longed to see.... but now he was more than that. He was my friend.... There was the chime. I all but fell out of bed trying to reach the message. I took a deep breath and hit the button that would open his thoughts. "I'm going to a mates BBQ and have no idea what to bring D= xxx wish I coul...

The Day the Moon Stood Still

The year is 3013.  The Mayan Calender ended 1001 years ago.  The planet known as Earth is my moon.  My name is Charlie Vega.  I have never set foot on the surface of my planet.  My great-great-grandfather colonized the first lunar community.  His father designed the evacuation of Earth.  Everything happened as planned but one thing.  He never returned from the plague stricken planet. After the calender ended, the world continued.  The fourth World War began in the year 2687.  The Black Plague returned, reaching every continent, every town. Earth was dying, the people suffering.  Governments had crumbled and wars were waged.  The Chinese Empire crumbled as United States President Alexander W. Grant, long distant grandson of General and President Ulysses S. Grant, took over office.  Under his direction the idea of a planet wide evacuation began.  In the year 2900 my future was placed here...

Second Star From the Right

Star Stuff.... that's what we are all made of.  No matter how you put  it, we are made of the same things as the stars.  When I was little my brother and I would sleep out on the lawn and watch the stars for hours before finally falling asleep.  He would look for the constellations and when he found one he'd show it to me, then he would tell me the story.  Whenever he found Orion's Belt he'd find the rest of him and then look at me and say, "Al, you know what we're made of?"  I would usually say something like, "Bones and guts and stuff?"  He would laugh and say, "No, we're made of Star Stuff.  The same as Orion.  We are just like him.  No matter what you do, always shoot for the stars, 'cause no matter what, you'll always be made of Star Stuff."  We'd lay there for hours, he'd tell stories and jokes, and no matter what he said, even if it was so absurd that it was almost verging on insanity, I hung on every word.  I...

Summer At Last

The cool breeze wafted into my bedroom through the open window.  Birds chirped and fluttered through the air and the crisp, clean morning air made my bed chamber into a fairy tale scene.  My eyes slowly opened, taking in the light from the sun that seemed so lost.  Months had gone by when the sun was no where to be seen, but today it was there like a beacon to the world.  My mind raced as it took in the sounds and smells of the morning.  Another smell came floating into my room but not through my window.  My bedroom door hung ajar and through the small opening came the smell of pancakes and eggs, hash browns and bacon!!  A perfect morning!  I throw the covers off my bed, slide my feet into a pair of slippers and skip down the stairs.  Mother is standing in her PJ's at the stove, bacon sizzling away.  Pancakes are piled high on the table next to a large plate of scrambled eggs.  My father is sitting at the table buttering a slice of...

If you never try, who will ever know?

Well, for anyone who cares, this is my first time to have ever entered a blog entry.... yeah I know, I just pointed out the obvious, and if you know me at all, I do that a lot.... Call me Captain!!  So, as this is my first an only post thus far, I should probably introduce myself.  My name is Jorge.... Jorge Gonzuella... Not really... My name is Ali........ Spensko.  Feel free to call me anything, I'm good with that.  I probably have more nicknames than the Webster's Dictionary has words... yeah, I know, that's a lot right? Well, that's a topic for a different date... I decided to create a blog out of the pure enjoyment of it... I write, a lot..  I have journals upon journals stacked in my closet, all of them are filled, but what about the words that I have in my heart that no one will ever hear?? The words that mean the world to me, will anyone ever get to see them?? I sure hoped so, but now, as I sit behind this computer screen the idea came to me "Blog it."...
