The First Semester

I know it has been a while since I have been on my blog, but life has been quite busy. My first semester of college is...... hard. So hard that I have, many times, thought of quitting. If only I knew what was going to happen. Since I moved into my apartment I have noticed a few things... A lot of things really...

  • High school teachers know what they are talking about.
  • The notes you take in High School are more useful than just for kindling....
  • Disney ruins real men for you.
  • No matter how hard you try, you could end up with the roommates that make things difficult...
  • Some professors don't care if you listen, and that's not good.
  • Being on time matters to the lesson even if it doesn't matter to the instructor.
  • Your parents really do love you and they want the best for you.
  • The harder you work in High school, the better off you'll be in college.
  • Just because your Facebook accounts says "friends" doesn't mean they wouldn't hesitate to stab you in the back.
  • The people who matter are the ones that care.
  • Stop worrying about what people think, let them ruin their own lives, not yours.
  • The guys you think would be horrible, really can be some of the best if you stop listening to what other people have to say about them.
  • Other writers don't always care if you write from your heart. Often times they don't even care that you exist.
  • God will never leave you.
  • It is totally acceptable to quote Albus Dumbledor in your Masterpieces of British Literature midterm essay.
  • If your teacher is awesome she gives you bonus points for the quote.
  • Sleep is GOOD.
  • Sleep is VERY good.
  • Sleep is EXTREMELY good.
  • Sleep is a gift from God for another day survived.
  • Homework still sucks.
  • Some of the best people ever will come into your life and someone else will push them out.
  • Chopping 84 onions in one apartment in one night is kind of a punishment and kind of a reward.
  • Planners are really amazing.
  • No matter how hard it may become, you are strong enough.
  • You will end up missing your school some time...
  • You will end up missing the stupid stuff you used to do with all your friends...
  • You will end up missing your parents a whole lot....
  • Being able to cook is a very good skill in college...
  • and  A LOT MORE

These last few months have probably been some of the hardest of my life, but I know that some good things came of it too. Somethings like this last General Conference. The missionary ages changed and that just threw open a door that hadn't necessarily been open before. I will be starting on my papers in January and turning them in some time in February. That was by far the best thing to have come out of this first semester, but other good things came too. Like, making friends that have shown me just what it means to be a friend. Some of them showing me what I want to become, other people in general showing me what I need to avoid. Being Christ-like isn't something everyone strives for, even if they are members, and that is something you can't control. It is hard, but it will all be okay. This semester is a blessing and a curse all rolled into one. The hard stuff is making the good stuff hard to see, but the good stuff is making the hard stuff good. :) That was a mouthful :)

No matter what happens, always know that God is going to stay by your side, and if you call on Him, He will come. He will never leave you or forsake you. Heavenly Father wants what is best for his children and I know that He will put a way to help me somewhere in my life, I just need to open my eyes and see it for what it really is.

  1. Ali that was beautifully said. I feel the same way and I didn't realize how much we've actually grown and changed for the better. I had no idea that college would be so hard and it's not the schooling part that's hard it's the dealing with people that's hard. But it's also good because it made me grow and it's made you grow. It's also helped me to realize I have to LOOK for the good in things instead of just having it come to me. That realization has made me such a happy person :)
